Apply and Reflect

Participate in the “Real-World” activity below and reflect on the experience

Week 6 Lesson 12
Career roadmap development, immediate career launch steps.

Section 1: Overview

This week concludes your pre-apprenticeship experience by turning your reflection into action. You’ve built skills, assembled a professional portfolio, and proven your readiness — now it’s time to chart your path forward. The purpose of this assignment is to help you translate what you’ve learned into a clear, achievable career roadmap and to take at least one tangible step toward employment or apprenticeship. By the end of this task, you should be able to outline your short-, mid-, and long-term goals, identify the resources you’ll need, and demonstrate initiative through real-world career action.

Section 2: Apply – Skill Demonstration

Goal:

Students develop a personalized career roadmap that defines next steps for entering the workforce or advancing into apprenticeship training, then complete one immediate launch action that demonstrates initiative and readiness.

  1. Create a one- to five-year career roadmap aligned with trade and apprenticeship goals.
  2. Identify and commit to at least one immediate action step toward entering the workforce or an apprenticeship program.
  3. Apply networking, communication, and self-management skills to advance their career goals
  4. Demonstrate strategic thinking by aligning daily actions with long-term professional outcomes.

Assignment:

Part A – Career Roadmap Creation

  1. Define Your Vision
    • Begin with your ultimate goal: what position, license, or role do you want to hold in five years?
    • Think about where you want to work, the conditions you prefer, and the impact you want to make in your trade.
  2. Map Your Timeline
    • Create a one-page chart or written plan that includes:
      • Immediate Goals (0–12 months): Apply for an apprenticeship or entry-level trade position; continue certifications.
      • Mid-Term Goals (1–3 years): Complete apprenticeship requirements, earn additional credentials, expand technical skill.
      • Long-Term Goals (3–5 + years): Achieve journeyman or supervisory status; consider business ownership or teaching roles.
  3. Identify Resources & Support
    • List at least three supports you’ll need to reach your goals (mentors, training centers, certifications, funding sources, or networking opportunities).
  4. Take a second Immediate Career Action
    • Choose one real-world step to begin your roadmap:
      • Apply for an apprenticeship or job related to your chosen trade.
      • Reach out to a mentor, employer, or union representative.
      • Attend a job fair or workforce-development event.
      • Update your LinkedIn profile or digital portfolio to reflect your career goals.
