Section 1: Overview
This week, you learned what employers value most when interviewing candidates: Reliability, safety awareness, communication, and professionalism. The purpose of this assignment is to demonstrate that you can prepare and perform effectively in a realistic interview setting. By the end of this task, you should be able to research employer expectations, present yourself professionally, and respond confidently to common interview questions that reflect real apprenticeship readiness.
Section 2: Apply – Skill Demonstration
Goal:
Students demonstrate interview readiness by preparing, recording, and reflecting on a mock interview aligned with their chosen career path.
- Identify the qualities employers prioritize when interviewing candidates.
- Prepare effectively for interviews through research, attire, and punctuality.
- Respond to common categories of interview questions with confidence.
- Demonstrate professionalism, safety awareness, and reliability during practice interviews.
Assignment:
Part A – Interview Preparation
- Research Employer Expectations
- Choose a related position or apprenticeship you’re interested in.
- Research the qualities and behaviors that the employer emphasizes for that role (e.g., reliability, teamwork, problem-solving, communication, safety awareness).
- Create a short list of at least five qualities employers look for in your field.
- Prepare for Your Interview
- Plan your attire and setting to reflect professionalism (clean, appropriate appearance, and background).
- Review and rehearse answers for these five question types:
- Field Knowledge: “What interests you about this career path?”
- Teamwork/Communication: “Describe a time you worked with others to solve a problem.”
- Safety Awareness: “How do you handle unsafe situations on a jobsite?”
- Reliability: “What does showing up ready to work mean to you?”
- Growth Mindset: “Where do you see yourself in three years?”
- Record Your Mock Interview
- Record a 3–5 minute mock interview using your phone, webcam, or other device.
- You may ask a classmate, instructor, or family member to act as the interviewer or read the questions yourself and pause between responses.
- Focus on posture, tone, and clarity.
- Document Preparation Evidence
- Include your five employer qualities list and a brief (100-word) summary explaining how you prepared for the interview and what strategies you used to build confidence.
